Pack light for Bali: a few swim outfits that double as day wear, reef-safe sunscreen, a light rain layer and a way to keep your phone, cards and cash on you at the beach, pool and on boat trips. Most bags that go missing in Bali are left on a sun lounger or in a scooter basket.
Here's our packing list, built from family trips and a lot of customer stories.
Clothes
- Two or three swim outfits that look fine at a warung or beach club.
- Light shirts and a sarong or cover-up for temples (shoulders and knees covered).
- A light rain jacket for afternoon storms in the wet season.
- Sandals you can wade in and a pair you can walk in.
Beach and pool essentials
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat.
- A microfibre towel for day trips to the islands.
- Swim shorts with a waterproof pocket, so your phone and cash come into the water with you.
Boat trips to Nusa Penida and the Gilis
Fast boats get splashed and snorkel stops mean leaving your things on deck. A sealed pocket on you is far easier than watching a bag. Ours is IPX8-rated to 30 metres and seals itself with magnets.
Scooters
Don't keep your phone or wallet in the scooter basket or under the seat at the beach car park. Keep the key and phone on you.
Money and documents
- Leave your passport in the hotel safe and carry a photo of it.
- Take one card and a little cash to the beach, not your whole wallet.
What we pack for Bali
Couples love our His & Her Holiday Bundle: men's and women's black swim shorts, both with a hidden waterproof pocket. Women travelling together often take the Byron Girl's Weekend Bundle.
“No more havin to stay behind to guard our stash, we can actually enjoy the pool together knowing that our valuables are safe and sound on us.” Vanessa C., Bali.
