How to Test Your Waterproof Pocket Before a Trip
Every traveller has the same thought before jumping in the water: “Is my phone really safe in there?” That’s why it’s smart to test your AquaStash waterproof pocket swim shorts before your first big swim or trip.
The good news? It takes less than two minutes, and once you’ve done it, you’ll know exactly how reliable your waterproof pocket is.
Why It’s Worth Testing
Even though every AquaStash pocket is factory tested to IPX8 waterproof standards, a quick home test builds confidence. It also helps you understand how the magnetic seal feels when it’s fully locked.
And if you’re taking your shorts on a long trip, testing them now means you won’t have to second-guess them later.
What You’ll Need
- Your AquaStash waterproof pocket swim shorts
- A piece of dry tissue or paper towel
- A sink, bucket, or bathtub with clean water
Step-by-Step: How to Test It
- Open the pocket and make sure it’s clean. Remove any sand or dust from the edges.
- Place the tissue inside and seal the magnetic closure. The Gooper® seal will snap shut automatically. Press gently along the edges to make sure it’s flat and even.
- Submerge the pocket fully in water for about 30 seconds. You can move it around a little to simulate swimming.
- Lift it out, dry the outside, and open it. If the tissue is completely dry, the pocket is perfectly sealed.
What If You Find Moisture?
If the tissue feels slightly damp, it usually means there was sand or lint along the edge. Rinse the pocket, dry it, and repeat the test. Once clean, the magnets will align perfectly again.
Water inside the pocket is extremely rare, but if it happens after multiple tests, contact our support team. Every pair of AquaStash shorts is covered by a three-year waterproof warranty.
Before You Head Off
Once you’ve tested your pocket, you’re set. You can swim, surf, or travel knowing your phone, wallet, and keys are fully protected. Just remember to rinse after saltwater and air dry your shorts before packing them away.

FAQs
How often should I test my waterproof pocket?
Once before your first use is enough, but if you travel often, a quick check before a new season is a good idea.
Can I test it with my phone inside?
No, always use dry tissue or paper first. Once you’re confident in the seal, you can trust it fully.
Do I need to re-seal it manually?
No. The Gooper® magnetic seal closes automatically every time. Just make sure the edges are clean and flat.
